Portraits of Preservation

The Texas Public Archaeology Network (TxPAN) is excited to announce our first Texas Archaeology Month project, Portraits of Preservation.
Portraits of Preservation is a photography exhibit featuring Texas’s diverse Prehistoric and Historic archaeological sites, cultural landscapes, Tribal Historic Preservation Office work, and artistic artifact photographs, taken by archaeologists and preservationists from all over our great state. There are some talented photographers within our archaeological community, and TxPAN wants to showcase their work! This exhibit is an opportunity to bring together two worlds, art and heritage, to celebrate Texas’s cultural resources and the dedicated people who work to preserve them.
Each photograph is displayed with short captions from the photographers about the image and why the subject should be preserved. The exhibit, curated by Amy Reid (Curator of the Center for Archaeological Studies), is available both virtually, and in-person on the 4th floor of Texas State University’s Alkek Library throughout the month of October.
