The San Antonio River is contained by stone walls where Brackenridge Way crosses the river and south to Tuleta Drive. The stone walls lining the river were park of a series of improvement projects in Brackenridge Park between 1937 and 1938. Portions of the San Antonio River running through downtown were lined with stone walls following the devastating flood of 1921 as part of flood control efforts and river beautification projects. It is possible these walls served a similar purpose in Brackenridge Park. The walls have been repaired and rebuilt over the years due to damage caused by flooding.
