A field trip guide for Educators in the Central Texas region: Archaeological sites to visit in Texas

1. Gault School of Archaeological Research
One of the most well-studied sites in the Americas, the Gault site located just outside of Austin, holds some of the deepest found deposits of the earliest peoples in the Americas. Gault Site as well is available for tour Monday-Saturday. Tours include a short hike with an interactive display. Tours are free for all school groups.

2. Comal Headwaters
Comal Headwaters are available for field trips by reservation for guides on the watershed program. The trip is 4 hours aimed at 4-6th graders and is TEKS-aligned. Students and chaperones are $5/each, while teachers are free. Discounts are available for Title 1 schools. 3. Spring Lake Site located at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment 
The Meadows Center has 30 TEKS-aligned courses available to meet the needs of any group and teaches visitors about biodiversity, ecosystems, and the water cycle. TEKS-aligned virtual options are also available.

4. National Park Service Waco Mammoth

Standing as tall as 14 feet and weighing 20,000 pounds, Columbian mammoths roamed across what is present-day Texas thousands of years ago. Today, the fossil specimens represent the nation's first and only recorded evidence of a nursery herd of ice-age Columbian mammoths. Website: https://www.nps.gov/waco/index.htm
