TxBOX Museum in a Box Contents

What is in the Box?

  • 6 Museum Style Descriptive Panels
  • 6 table or floor stands for the Panels based on school needs
  • Artifacts from 2 Central Texas Archaeological Sites discussed on the Panels including
  • Resin Cast of actual artifacts (projectile points and ceramics) from Spring Lake and knapped replicas of point types found at Spring Lake
  • Real artifacts from historic sites that are redundant to other materials found but representative of the artifacts at Wilson-Durham-Chandler.
  • A chronology list of projectile points so students can compare the points in the Box to how the points match up with time and learn how archaeologists know how old a site is
  • A ceramic vessel activity so students can see how archaeologists identify the part of a vessel and type of vessel that we find at sites
  • Maybe You’ll Be an Archaeologist children’s book written by CAS Curator Amy Reid that could be used for a Librarian Storytime.  The copy in the box is only a loan, but if you wish to purchase your own you can go here TO AMY’s BOOK SALES and all profits go directly into CAS’s Public Outreach accounts to help fund additional Outreach initiatives similar to this.
  • Digital copies sent via email and/or hard copies included in the Box of accompanying Lesson Plans for Science, Math, and Art available at this time (more coming soon):
  • Connection to the Natural World: Plant and Animal Resources at Archaeological Sites and what does that mean about past environments or what people ate in the past.
  • Scientific Investigation and Reasoning: Surveying and Excavating Sites and How do Archaeologists Interpret Data
  • Math: Perimeter, Area, Volume, and Angles with an optional Pythagorean Theorem add-on
  • Teacher and Student Surveys – our Museum in a Box and Resources are new.  Tell us what you liked or did not like about them and how to make them better!
